Im Rahmen unserer Veranstaltungsreihe 100 JAHRE 16MM zeigen wir am 06.12. ab 18:00 Uhr im Raum E2.122 fluide Bilder des Fluiden. Anstoß für dieses Programm gab der Wirbelsturm, der im Jahr 2022 in Paderborn enorme Schäden im Gartendenkmal der Stadt – dem Paderquellgebiet – verursachte und Kultur und Bürger:innen seitdem dazu animiert, die Quellgebiete der Stadt wieder stärker in den Fokus zu rücken.

Egal ob rauschend, strömend, tröpfelnd oder fließend, Wasser steht für ökologische Kreisläufe und Natur, ist der Hauptbestandteil des menschlichen Körpers und auch deshalb ein gesellschaftlich und kulturell besonders relevantes Element. Im Kino wird Wasser oft als Metapher für Gefühle und Weiblichkeit eingesetzt, als Imaginationsraum oder Gefahr dargestellt und es besticht durch spezifische Ästhetiken.

Mit einem aus den analogen Filmbeständen des Instituts für Medienwissesnschaften kuratierten Programm werfen wir unter dem Titel A Brief Review of Water and its Role in Cinematic Experience in German Educational Film einen Blick auf die Rolle, Visualität und Formensprache dieses besonderen Elements im Kino – mit einem speziellen Fokus auf seine Erscheinungsweisen im Bereich des Lehrfilms. Alexandra Simopoulos hat das Programm zusammengestellt und wird dazu eine kurze Einführung geben (auf Englisch).

As part of our 100 YEARS of 16MM event series, we will be showing fluid images of the fluid in room E2.122 on 06.12. from 18:00. The impetus for this program was the tornado that caused enormous damage to the city’s garden monument – the Paderquell area – in Paderborn in 2022 and has since encouraged culture and citizens to focus more strongly on the city’s headwater areas.

Whether rushing, streaming, trickling or flowing, water stands for ecological cycles and nature, is the main component of the human body and is therefore a socially and culturally particularly relevant element. In cinema, water is often used as a metaphor for feelings and femininity, portrayed as a space of imagination or danger, and it captivates with specific aesthetics.

With a program curated from the analog film collection of the Institute for Media Studies, we take a look at the role, visuality and formal language of this unique element in cinema – with a special focus on its manifestations in the field of educational film. Alexandra Simopoulos has compiled the program and will give a short introduction (in English).

Alexandra Simopoulos, M.A., ist Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin im Projekt „OASE“ der UPB sowie am Arbeitsschwerpunkt Filmwissenschaft am Institut für Medienwissenschaften der Universität Paderborn. Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte liegen vorrangig im Bereich des Archivs, des Schmalfilms und der analogen Filmprojektion.

Alexandra Simopoulos, M.A., is a research assistant in the „OASE“ project at the UPB and at the Film Studies department at the Institute for Media Studies at Paderborn University. Her research focuses primarily on archives, substandard film and analog film projection.
